Purpose

Alkaline phosphatase, when coupled to proteins (such as antibodies, streptavidin, etc.), can specifically recognize target molecules and is suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot (WB), and histochemical detection.
Alkaline phosphatase can be employed to dephosphorylate the 5'-end of DNA or RNA, preventing self-ligation.
The dephosphorylated DNA or RNA can subsequently be labeled with radioactive phosphate using T4 polynucleotide kinase.
